Here are photos and video of First Lady Michelle Obama at the Inaugural gown unveiling at the Smithsonian on Tues. March 9, 2010 and transcript of her speech. The dress designer, Jason Wu was also present. As per the tradition of previous first ladies, she has donated the Inauguration ball gown to the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History in Washington, DC where it is to be displayed alongside the others.

“I’ll never forget the moment that I slipped on this beautiful gown. I remember how just luscious I felt as the President and I were announced onto the stage for the first of many dances. And I’ll cherish that moment for the rest of my life.

“And now that the crowds are gone, and the Mall is silent, and our family has settled into our new home, the White house, this gown is one of the most tangible things I have left to remember that day. And that’s why it will always hold a special place in my heart.

“And today, when I look at the dress, I remember all of the incredible people that we met along our journey and on that day, and how warmly — welcome they received us. I remember the joy on the faces of so many young people who devoted so much time to getting us to that point. I remember the wonderful letters we received from folks who were there and others who watched the event from home; people who told us about how much that day meant for them and their families — letters from octogenarians who told us how they never thought they’d live to see the day.”

Here is the Michelle Obama Huckabee video of her Sat. Feb. 20, 2010 interview on the Fox News program by host former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. During the interview, her first on the network, the First Lady discussed a range of topics including her Let’s Move initiative task force on childhood obesity, launched earlier in the month.

She discussed her role as First Lady, and acknowledged criticism both she and the President have faced, saying, “…As you know that’s part of politics today you know and it the truth is is that most of America isn’t like that. And they’re tired and that; they want folks to get stuff done. The beauty of my job is that I get to see more of that America. And that feeds me….I feel the country has gotten to know me. I love my country; you can’t do this if you don’t. The same is true of my husband. You don’t step into this arena unless you care about your country. That’s something I’ve come to know in all of our politicians and candidates, regardless of perspectives; they’re in this because they care.”

In support of the Let’s Move initiative, the Obama addressed the National Governors Association meeting in Washington, DC on Feb. 20. The previous day, she paid a visit to Fairhill School in North Philadelphia and went grocery shopping at Fresh Grocer.

Feb. 9, 2010, the same day that her Let’s Move task force on childhood obesity was launched. During the wide ranging interview, she discussed the new campaign, steps she has taken to help her own daughters. She also responded to questions about the Obama administration and her reaction to criticism, most recently from former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

Regarding the Let’s Move initiative, she stressed the urgency of tackling the problem of childhood obesity as government statistics reveal that one-third of U.S. children are overweight or obese. She said: “”We don’t have a choice. When we look at these statistics, we’re spending billions of dollars on preventable diseases, and new health care legislation could go a long way to improving prevention, first and foremost.”

Regarding Sarah Palin’s criticisms, most recently during her Tea Party Convention speech, the First Lady said: “I don’t have a read. I mean, I try not to make or set opinions about people that I haven’t had any, you know, substantive interaction with. I mean, I know what you see on TV.” She went on to say: I think it’s wonderful to have strong female voices out there, but I don’t know her.”

The First Lady Michelle Obama Childhood Obesity Let’s Move initiative was launched on Feb. 9, 2010; transcripts, video and photos below. It is a nationwide campaign and federal task force to bring about positive change in light of government statistics which reveal that one third of children in America are overweight or obese.

The launch took place at the White House following President Barack Obama’s signing of a memorandum establishing a task force on childhood obesity. According to the official release, attendees included Tiki Barber, NBC correspondent and former NFL football player, Dr. Judith Palfrey, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Will Allen from Milwaukee, WI, a leader in the effort to bring fresh produce to inner cities and urban areas, Mayors Chip Johnson of Hernando, Mississippi, and Joseph Curtatone of Somerville, Massachusetts, who are leading efforts in their communities to reduce childhood obesity. Also present were students from Bancroft Elementary School in Washington, DC and members of the 2009 national championship pee-wee football team, the Watkins Hornets.

According to the release: “One third of all children born in 2000 or later will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives; many others will face chronic obesity-related health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and asthma. A recent study put the health care costs of obesity-related diseases at $147 billion per year. This epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.

“The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic health and security of our nation is at stake,” said Mrs. Obama. “This isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. So, let’s move.”

Here is the First Lady Michelle Obama Good Morning America video of her interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts on Tues. Feb. 9, 2010. She discussed the new childhood obesity initiative, entitled, Let’s Move, which she has begun and also addressed criticism of President Barack Obama’s policies.

Regarding the initiative, she said: “We want to eliminate this problem of childhood obesity in a generation. We want to get that done. We want our kids to face a different and more optimistic future in terms of their lifespan.”

Regarding criticism of the Obama administration she said: “I think my husband has done a phenomenal job staying on course, looking his critics in the eye, coming up with clear solutions against staying the course. “Rightfully, some people are frustrated, right? “But one of the things that Barack Obama said and continues to say is change isn’t easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. And it certainly doesn’t happen in a year. It’s not, he’s not done yet. He’s got more time.”
