Here is the First Lady Michelle Obama Sesame Street video of her appearance on the show on Nov. 10, 2009 in commemoration of the PBS series’ 40th anniversary.

She appears in a segment with Elmo, Big Bird and a few children and demonstrates how to plant vegetable garden seeds.

The iconic children’s television show was first broadcast on Nov. 10, 1969 and has had enduring popularity. The appearance of the First Lady on the show is just one of numerous guest appearances over the years by public figures and celebrities. Questions ranged from the President’s most annoying habit, to which she initially joked, “We don’t have enough time,” to what is on her iPod to which she said: “I’ve got Sting, I’ve got Stevie Wonder, my favorite. I’ve got some Sara Bareilles, I’ve got, ooh, some Robin Thicke, some Mary J. Blige. I got it all. Some Herbie Hancock. I love my iPod!”

Here is the official Obama family portrait photo by Annie Leibovitz. It was taken on Sept. 1, 2009 at the Green Room in the White House in Washington, DC, featuring the President, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia.

As Vanity Fair notes, the legendary photographer first began photographing the President and his family in 2004 when he was running for the Senate. She first photographed the family at the campaign headquarters in Chicago, with a caption, “Is this the face of a future president?”

Here are the Obama Olympics 2016 speech video, photos, and transcripts. As part of the Chicago Olympics 2016 bid in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 2, 2009; both the President and the First Lady addressed the IOC. The announcement time of the host city takes place at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time. (1:30 pm ET).

The presentation by the U.S. city which competes with Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, and Tokyo to host the Games, was in total 70 minutes long. As such it was the culmination of Chicago’s four-year long campaign, with a budget of $48 million, as the Wall Street Journal reports.

President Barack Obama delivered his address before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Copenhagen saying, in part that the U.S. “is ready and eager to assume that sacred trust…I urge you to choose Chicago. And if you do — if we walk this path together — then I promise you this: The city of Chicago and the United States of America will make the world proud.”

For her part, the WSJ reports, First Lady Michelle Obama, a native Chicagoan made an appeal, evoking memories of her father, who came down with multiple sclerosis in while in his 30s, noting that as a child she remembers sitting on her father’s lap and cheering for Olympic gymnasts Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci. former athlete

Speaking of her father: “He taught me how to throw a ball and mean right hook better than anybody in our neighborhood,” breaking into her trademark smile.

Obama Kenilworth Tree Planting Photos, Video 4-21-09

Here are Obama Kenilworth tree planting photos and video from April 21, 2009. That same day, Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. See video and photos from both events which preceded Earth Day celebrations which took place the next day, April 22, 2009

President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton, along with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden all participated in the tree planting ceremony which took place at Kenilworth Aquatic Garden in Washington on April 21, 2009 in celebration of Earth Day. The event was sponsored by the Student Conservation Association (SCA), with several members of the organization participating.

The leader, Amtchat Edwards, then gave a little explanation. “This is a real life service project,” he said, noting that they were planting trees to protect the river and, by extension, the entire watershed. He then staged a demonstration, calling on four of the students to play trees, with hands interlocked to simulate roots, another to play dirt and still another to play rain.

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) was established in 1957 and presently, nationwide, the organization has some 4,000 interns and volunteers who collectively contribute more than two million hours of conservation service per year, according to the organization’s own assessment. In total, SCA members are active in all 50 states and annually serve more than 500 natural and cultural sites in all 50 states.

In prepared remarks, Obama said:

We need your service, right now, at this moment in history. I’m not going to tell you what your role should be; that’s for you to discover. But I’m asking you to stand up and play your part. I’m asking you to help change history’s course. Put your shoulder up against the wheel. And if you do, I promise you – your life will be richer, our country will be stronger, and someday, years from now, you may remember it as the moment when your own story and the American story converged, when they came together, and we met the challenges of our new century.

Senator Ted Kennedy also spoke at the event. In his speech, he evoked the memory of his late brother, President John F. Kennedy who, with the Peace Corps, also inspired and encouraged young people to commit to public service in the early 1960s. White House Easter Egg Roll Video, Photos

Here are the 2009 White House Easter egg roll video and photos. The traditional event took place on April 13, 2009 on the White House lawn and was open to the public, via ticket. The entire Obama family was present; President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia as well as Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, and someone dressed up as the Easter bunny.

The annual tradition dates back 131 years and was started by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878. The 2009 White House Easter egg roll was the largest in history with more than 30,000 participants from 48 states. The theme was “Let’s Go Play” and featured a myriad of activities in addition to the actual Easter Egg Roll, including games and storytelling. The event also had musical performances from Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie (who sang the National Anthem; see video below), Ziggy Marley and the D.C. Youth Orchestra, and others.

President Obama played basketball with some of the teens. He also read stories to some of the younger children, including Where the Wild Things Are,” by Maurice Sendak, which he said was one of his favorite books.

As he read about imaginary beasts and the adventures of the book’s main character, a little boy named Max wearing a wolf suit, the president howled and spoke in a monster voice. When he finished the story, almost all the children clapped, but one started crying. “These wild things can be a little scary,” Obama said with a smile as someone picked up the boy and held him.

In addition to being a fun, family focused event, the First Family also used the event to promote healthy eating and exercise.

“Our goal today is just to have fun,” [Michelle Obama] said. “We want to focus on activity, healthy eating. We’ve got yoga, we’ve got dancing, we’ve got storytelling, we’ve got Easter egg decorating. Oh, we’ve got basketball (applause) — a little soccer, as well. And we want everybody to think about moving their bodies, get out.”

First Lady Michelle Obama and her mother, Marian Robinson, grace the cover of Essence Magazine May 2009 cover and are featured in an interview. See the cover, photos and video. The magazine will be on newstands on April 10, 2009.

The joint interview with Michelle Obama and mom Marian Robinson is the first since the latter moved to the White House to take care of the Obamas’ children, Sasha and Malia. The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Angela Burt-Murray, conducted the interview in the White House and, in an interview with Today Show’s Matt Lauer (which you can see below) discusses the experience.

Here are a few article excerpts. Michelle Obama talks about the role of First Lady as she envisions it.

“It’s an honor and a privilege when you walk into the White House-at least I automatically felt a level of obligation. This is a big responsibility, a wonderful platform and I just want to make sure I take every advantage to serve as a role model, to provide good messages, to be a supportive mate to the President and to make sure that my girls are solid.”

“Unlike most women, I have a lot of resources: I have my mother living with me. The White House has a staff of people who are there to make my life easy. I don’t have a full-time job, although I work very hard in the role of First Lady. But I have a lot of resources. So I have been able to achieve the balance because I have the support I need.”

Michelle Obama mother, Marian Robinson reflects on her daughter’s history making role as the nation’s new First Lady.

“Well, to me, it’s overwhelming. I never doubted that she could do this. She is doing it with such grace and dignity. So I am just proud. I just hope she does what she wants to do. [Chuckles] Because the things that she wants to do are very important. They mean a lot to her.”
