Here are the Barbra Streisand Village Vanguard set-list, review, videos and photos of the entertainment legend’s live performance September 26, 2009 at the New York City jazz landmark. The historic concert, in support of her new studio album, Love Is The Answer, marked her first appearance at the club since 1961.

The concert was attended by 100 people, man of which were fans who won tickets via a lottery, in addition to public figures who are friends of Streisand including Bill Clinton, along with Hillary Clinton and daughter Chelsea, Donna Karan and Nicole Kidman.

The new album, Love Is the Answer, is the 63rd album from Streisand, the best selling music artist in history, according to the R.I.A.A. Her career transverses several disciplines including film, music and theater and she has received awards in all of them, Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, a special Tony Award. She is additionally a 2008 Kennedy Center Honoree.

Scott Simon of NPR Weekend Edition interviewed the owner of the legendary jazz club, Lorraine Gordon, who reminisced about how Barbra Streisand’s first appearance at the club came about, noting she had first approached her husband, the late Max Gordon, founder and owner of the club.

“She wanted to sing down here, and Miles Davis was playing at the time,” Gordon says. “And Max asked Miles, as the story goes, if he’d accompany her. And Miles, in his inimitable fashion, says, ‘I don’t play for no girls.’ And he didn’t.”

Here is the Barbra Streisand Oprah video. The legendary entertainer performed and was interviewed on The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 24, 2009 in support of her forthcoming studio album, Love Is The Answer, set for release on Sept. 29.

She performed her Academy Award winning song Evergreen, and also Make Someone Happy before the studio audience. The new album is collection of jazz songs and standards and is her first album of new material since Guilty Pleasures which was released in 2005. The multi-hyphen show business legend has received throughout her career eight Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, four Emmy Awards, a special Tony Award, is also a Kennedy Center Honoree and on the eve of the release of her 63rd album, is ranked by the R.I.A.A. as the best selling female music artist in history.

The Barbra Streisand Oprah interview excerpts can be seen on the show’s official Web site, a range of topics were discussed including her early beginnings in Brooklyn.

“I grew up in Williamsburg until I was 7, and that was a $40-a-month apartment,” she says. “I lived in one room with my mother, in the same bed, and my brother had a foldaway cot in the same room.”

Barbra and her family then moved to the projects, which at the time, she says she considered “hotsie totsie.”

“I remember it was $105-a-month rent.” [...]

“I wanted to be seen. I wanted to be recognized, because I wasn’t seen a lot as a child,” she says. “So I think that’s what motivated me.”

Barbra Streisand Love Is the Answer Album Track-Listing, Cover Art, Video

Here is the Barbra Streisand Love Is The Answer album track-listing, cover art, along with photos and video. The highly anticipated album from the entertainment legend will be released on September 29, 2009. One of the tracks, Here’s to Life, has been made available, and can be heard via the video below, along with an additional behind the scenes video on the making of the new album.

The Grammy nominated song, Here’s to Life, lyrics by Phyllis Molinary and music by Artie Butler, and sung by Shirley Horn and others, is characteristic of the album, of jazz standards and classics. It is the first album of new material that Barbra Streisand has released since her 2005 album Guilty Pleasures. It features song arranging by Grammy Award winning Canadian jazz singer and pianist Diana Krall and Johnny Mandel. The album will feature performances from Krall and her jazz quartet.

In celebration of the release of the Barbra Streisand Love Is the Answer album, she will perform on Saturday September 26 at the iconic jazz club, The Village Vanguard in New York City. She last performed forty-eight years ago, as an opening act for Miles Davis in 1961.

In addition to being ranked by the R.I.A.A. as the best selling female music artist in history–with R.I.A.A. certified 13 multi-platinum, 30 platinum and 50 gold albums–Barbra Streisand is additionally a recipient of eight Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, four Emmy Awards, a special Tony Award, as well as induction as a Kennedy Center Honoree (in 2008).

She was recently profiled in Parade magazine, in an article by Janice Kaplan which featured an interview, photos, video. She discussed a range of topics, from her first movie role, in the 1968 screen adaptation of Funny Girl, to the movies she herself went on to direct, including the landmark film 1983 Yentyl, which she directed, wrote, co-produced and starred in. Regarding her achievements, she said:

“I never hear the good things about me,” she admits. “My friend Quincy Jones says we won our first Grammys together in 1963. I have no recollection. I don’t even remember the room. When he showed me the picture, I remembered what I wore. But it’s like awards don’t mean anything.”

She pauses for a moment to think about what has been meaningful.

“My early television specials were really good. I’m proud of the movies I’ve directed. I like those. And I like this house. But for all the public life—I get kind of embarrassed by it.”

Here is the Beyonce Kennedy Center Honors video. Beyonce performed the Barbra Streisand classic, “The Way We Were” from the movie of the same title at the 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors 2008. Streisand was one of the Kennedy Honors recipients, along with Morgan Freeman, Tyla Tharp, George Jones, and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who.

The Kennedy Honors Gala, produced by George Stevens Jr., took place on December 7, 2008 and was broadcast on December 30, 2008. The annual Honors recipients are selected by the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees in recognition for their outstanding lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts; in music, theater, opera, dance, film or television.
