Nas at the Fox News protest rally in New York City, July 23, 2008

Nas took part in the ColorOfChange.org and MoveOn.org protest against Fox News in New York City on July 23, 2008.

On the day Nas’ untitled Def Jam album hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200, the rapper joined political groups Color of Change and Move On, along with fans and protesters, outside of the Fox News building in New York to protest the network’s portrayal of African-Americans.

Color of Change and Move On delivered several boxes containing a petition signed by more than 620,000 people to support their cause, although Fox News refused to accept them.

Nas briefly spoke to the crowd of nearly 100 people and urged them to “stop the racist smears on the Obamas and black Americans.” In his speech, he cited examples of remarks made by Fox reporters that he and supporters found to be racist, including a reference to Michelle Obama as Barack Obama’s “baby mama,” and a fist bump between the couple as a “terrorist fist jab.”

Color of Change director Andre Banks said the campaign began about a month ago as an e-mail to the group’s members. After hearing Nas’ Fox-themed song “Sly Fox” a couple of weeks ago, he wanted to contact the rapper in hopes to get his support. “(We said), ‘Let’s call up his people and see if we can make it happen,’” Banks said.

Some protesters’ signs read “Fox News: Your Source for Racist Smears” or “Fair and Balanced? Fairly Racist,” while others’ echoed lyrics from “Sly Fox,” like “Fox keeps feeding us toxins.”

Omarosa on The Wendy Williams Show, July 21, 2008

Omarosa of “The Apprentice” fame (or perhaps infamy) made an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show on July 21, 2008 and we would not exaggerate to say that a cat fight ensued between guest, Omarosa and host, Wendy Williams (as radio talk show host, no stranger to infamy herself), complete with verbal sparing, insults and even physical tussling.

Ms. Williams is a tough cookie, but she met her match on Monday, when Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, the bad girl of “The Apprentice,” went on the show to promote her new book, “The Bitch Switch: Knowing How to Turn It On and Off.”

Omarosa, who goes by one name, like Cher or Stalin, had her switch turned on high. Ms. Williams took her to task. “But, Omarosa, while you and I both have demanding ways, I’ve found that you show the honey, and it works a little better.”

Omarosa retorted, “You didn’t get here by being sweet,” noting that Ms. Williams’s radio career was built on, as she put it, “talking smack” about people.

Ms. Williams, visibly irked, said, “I feel like in many ways you are the stereotype of the angry black woman.”

Omarosa replied, “I’d rather be an A.B.W. than a buffoon.”

The last straw, however, was about bouffants. Ms. Williams slyly worked in a mention of her guest’s recent breast augmentation surgery; Omarosa retaliated by asking Ms. Williams if she had had her nose fixed. Ms. Williams, who said she has only used Botox, suggested that Omarosa plump up her lines with Restylane.

“And I would suggest a wig that doesn’t stuff my head three inches,” Omarosa snapped back.

At long last a breakthrough in daytime programming: the backtalk show.
