Watch Hawaii Tsunami live stream video online of news coverage; video is embedded below. On Sat. morning Feb. 27, 2010 an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile, affecting the cities of Concepcion and Santiago. The earthquake has caused tsunami warning for Hawaii as well as several countries and territories in the Pacific Ocean including Guam, American Samoa, Australia and Japan as well as the U.S. west coast where waves may possibly hit.

Here is the Obama Chile earthquake and Hawaii tsunami speech video and transcript from Sat. Feb. 27, 2010. President Barack Obama delivered a brief statement at the White House in response to the 8.8 magnitude earthquake which struck Chile and the subsequent tsunami warning which affect Hawaii and other regions in the Pacific Ocean.

The President said of the situation in Chile, which has affected the cities of Santiago and Concepcion, “On behalf of the American people, Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to the Chilean people….We have resources to deploy should the Chilean people need our help.” He also noted that he had reached out to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to offer assistance. Regarding the threat to Hawaii and U.S. territories Guam and American Samoa in the Pacific he said: “We can’t control nature, but we can and must be prepared for disaster when it strikes.”

Romel Joseph Haitian Violinist, Earthquake Survivor (Video)

Romel Joseph, a blind Haitian violinist survived the earthquake in Port-au-Prince and has a remarkable story which he has shared with various media outlets. Music legend Stevie Wonder spoke to him via phone on live television on CNN on Jan. 27, 2010 and pledged to send him two keyboards so that he can continue with his music as he recovers. A Julliard graduate and dual citizen of the U.S. and Haiti, Romel Joseph established a music school, New Victorian School, in 1991 in Port-au-Prince. The school was destroyed in the earthquake, but Joseph vows to rebuild. Trapped in the rubble for 18 hours, he survived through prayer and through recollecting, note by note, all of the violin concerti which he had performed during his career. In an interview with NPR he said:

“For example, if I perform the Franck sonata, which is 35 minutes long in my honors recital at Juilliard, then I would bring myself to that time,” Joseph told NPR’s Guy Raz. “That allows me not only to kill time, but also to mentally take myself out of the space where I was.”

CNN has also followed the story. During the live morning new broadcast on Jan. 27, new anchors interviewed Romel via satellite; he is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was flown after being recovered from the rubble. Despite the death of his wife in the earthquake and the injury to his left hand, which may jeopardize his future ability to play violin, he has remained in high spirits. He received a surprise phone call from music legend Stevie Wonder who promised to send him two keyboards so that he can continue with his music. As a musical arranger, he said he also played keyboard and had previously expressed in interviews his interest in resuming practice. Video of the interview will be posted when available. Romel Joseph is also the founder and executive director of the Walenstein Musical Organization, which provides music education for students in South Florida.

Here is the Wyclef Jean Oprah video from Jan. 20, 2010 of his interview on the Haiti earthquake special episode, discussing his experience and showed video taken during his visit to the country in the aftermath of the Jan. 12 earthquake near the capital, Port-au-Prince.

In his interview with Oprah, the Grammy-winning music artist described conditions as apocalyptic, saying that being in the city of Port-au-Prince “feels like walking into a morgue.” He also said that every night, he heard people singing. “You can hear them chanting and still singing the words of God — it’s unexplainable. Calling it the Haiti of 1804, alluding to the founding of the nation, he added: The thing about the Haitian people is their will; it’s determination.”

He also addressed allegations raised about his charity about his charity, Yele Haiti which he had previously discussed in a press conference. He noted that in beginning it was his ambition for the charity to become an NGO. He said: “When I was starting my charity, I put my first million dollars in the charity. I have never from any form taken any pavement for myself. I put money into my foundation when I was starting. I think as a chairman — I am the chairman. I think it was poorly run. He said he had plans to return to Haiti to help with logistics of food distribution. He additionally said, toward the end of the program: “The Haitian people told me specifically when I was coming on your show to tell people, ‘Stop with the photo ops. Haiti don’t need no more photo ops….We need logistics, we need people to go to the airport who can get stuff out of the airport and to the people.”

Also appearing on the special episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show on the Haiti Earthquake aftermath and relief efforts were CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, R&B singer-songwriter Maxwell and pop singer Rihanna.

Lady GaGa Haitian Relief T-Shirt

The Lady GaGa Haitian relief T-shirt (picture above) is now available via the pop singer-songwriter’s official Web site. In addition to raising funds through the sales of the T-shirt, she is also donating all proceeds from her Jan. 24, 2010 New York City concert towards the relief efforts in Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. More details after the jump.

She first made the Haiti relief announcement during her Jan. 15 appearance n the Oprah Winfrey Show. Subsequently, she announced via Twitter: “Jan 24th is GAGA FOR HELPING HAITI day. Go to www.ladygaga.com on the 24th + 100% of all merchandise purchased goes to earthquake relief.”
