Full Video: Rep. Steve Scalise Talks Las Vegas Shooting, Gun Control and Politicization in First Interview since Congressional Baseball Shooting, Tuesday, October 3, 2017

Here’s the full video of Rep. Steve Scalise’s interview with Martha MacCallum on Fox News ‘The Story .’ It marked the House Majority Whip’s first television interview since returning to Congress after being shot and seriously injured in June at the Congressional baseball game practice in Virginia. He discussed the aftermath of the shooting and the political motivations of the shooter James Thomas Hodgkinson. He also spoke about the mass shooting in Las Vegas and the politicization of the massacre — the deadliest in U.S. history — and the calls for gun control. The complete replay is below.

The video is above. Rep. Scalise said of his own shooting and of shooter James Thomas Hodgkinson’s motivation to target Republicans, “I don’t think that anybody has a rationale or justification for carrying out that attack. Nobody in their right frame of mind should think like that.”

As for the Las Vegas mass shooting that has left more than 60 dead and more than 500 injured, Rep. Scalise spoke about about how some Democrats immediately politicized the tragedy, and said, “First of all, you’ve got to recognize, when there’s a tragedy like this, the first thing we should be thinking about is praying about the people who were injured. We shouldn’t first be thinking about promoting our political agenda.”

The interview was broadcast originally on Tuesday, October 3 2017.
