Veronica Roth’s newly published book, ‘Carve the Mark,’ is the first of a two-part science fiction series.

She was asked about her meteoric rise to fame with the YA dystopian trilogy of novels — Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant — which has sold 35 million copies worldwide and has produced a franchise of blockbuster movies with Shailene Woodley in the lead role as Tris Prior.

Asked about her new book’ ‘Carve the Mark,’ she said “‘Carve the Mark’ is a phrase that is repeated through the book when the characters are coming to terms with something that they’ve done that they’re not sure is the right thing to have done. There’s a lot of moral ambiguity in the book.”

Asked about the descriptor on her Web site that fans of ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Divergent’ will love the book. She said, “It is kind of a space adventure that focuses on families and I think that’s something that’s appealing about ‘Star Wars.'”

The interview was broadcast originally on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
