ABC “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2014″ (Some performers are in L.A.) — Ariana Grande, Billy Joel, Blondie, Capital Cities, Daughtry, Enrique Iglesias, Fall Out Boy, Florida Georgia Line, Icona Pop, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Pitbull, Robin Thicke and The Fray.
NBC “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” — Mariah Carey, Blake Shelton and others
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will officiate the 60 second countdown to 2014; New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will not take part this time (his third and final term of office ends at 12:01 a.m. in the New Year). At midnight, ‘Auld Lang Syne,’ John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ — performed this year by Melissa Etheridge — and the iconic Frank Sinatra ‘New York, New York are the traditional songs which are played as confetti rains down.
The 2014 Times Square ball weighs a staggering 11,875 pounds and is comprised of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles. As for the lighting, there are 672 LED modules each of which hold 48 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDS; 12 each of red, green, white and blue. This marks a total of 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs.
