As for American Idol — which will have its season 12 premiere on Weds. Jan. 16, 2013 — Nicki Minaj reiterated what she has said in previous interviews — notably, the Tonight Show, on Jan. 14 — that the feud with Mariah Carey is real (as first revealed in a TMZ video which went viral).

She noted that it began with awkwardness that she had not anticipated: “I went there and I started feeling a little bit of the shade. I overcompensated by being crazier.” She went on to insist that much of what happened was now in the past – “We’re fine. I cannot hold a grudge against Mariah Carey” — and went on to express her admiration of Mariah Carey as a music artist and idol, saying, “What people don’t understand is that I’ve looked up to her for so many years.”

She also shared her anxiety about the forthcoming live shows, saying, “I cannot trust myself. I don’t want to look like a crazy psycho again.”

Filling out the new slate of judges are country music star Keith Urban as well as Randy Jackson who returns, having been a judge since season 1. Discussion and controversy over judges has tended to overshadow the contestants, although some have been revealed via spoilers. As noted, the season 12 premiere is Jan. 16, 2013.
