The ABC reality TV series Secret Millionaire enlists millionaires, often entrepreneurs and business owners, who spend a week living in the typical housing of an economically devastated area of the U.S., and survive on a week’s equivalent of welfare wages, oftentimes less than $50. They seek out opportunities to work, without fanfare or revealing who they really are, as volunteers in service-oriented charities and non-profit foundations that help local residents. At the end of the episode, in emotionally compelling scenes, they reveal their true identities and give generous financial gifts to the people with whom they have worked alongside during the week.

Season 3 episode 6 focuses on Sean Belnick, CEO and founder, in 2001 at age 14, of BizChair.com, a Georgia-based online retailer of office chairs and office furniture. By age 16, he had become a millionaire through the growth of the multimillion dollar company which he began with a $500 investment. He spent his week in Brooklyn, New York where he worked with charities that included Friends of Firefighters in Red Hook helps New York City firefighters in Red Hook, Brooklyn who are still coping with the aftermath of 9/11. He also worked with Children of Promise, NYC an organization based in Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed Stuy), Brooklyn, that helps at risk children who have a parent or parents who are incarcerated.

He said of his experience:

“When I look back at my life, I realize that I’ve been very successful and not given much back to the community and charity compared to how well I’ve done,” Belnick told ABC.

I think it is awesome how Sean’s parents helped him start his own company, like his father’s furniture business. Now he has the means to help make someone’s life better as he gave away so much of his own money to deserving kids. The reactions on the volunteer organizer’s faces are always priceless. I know watching this hour long show can be difficult to fit into my schedule sometimes, but I really appreciate watching commercial free with Auto Hop on my PrimeTime Anytime recordings. My Dish coworker comes over with his family once a week and this is one of the shows we like to watch with our families. Now we can see more shows with Auto Hop and that suits us just fine as avid TV watchers.
