The ABC reality TV series Secret Millionaire chronicles the experiences of millionaires — many of them self-made millionaires, business owners and entrepreneurs — as they devote a full week in which they live in an impoverished area of the U.S., in housing typical of the neighborhood and the equivalent of a week’s welfare wages, generally under $50. They seek out the local charities and service organizations who strive to make a difference and devote their time a volunteers. At the end of the episode, these millionaires reveal their true identities and give generously to those with whom they have worked.

The season 3 episode 6 focuses on Marcus Lemonis, who is, as noted, Chairman and CEO of Camping World and Good Sam. Camping World is a retailer of RVs and camping accessories, and the Good Sam is an organization for owners of RVs, supplying a wealth of resources to support the RV and camping lifestyle. Among the charities Lemonis worked with during the week was NVEEE (National Voices for Equality Education & Enlightenment) which offers help to bullied teens and children through a mentoring program.

He said of his experience on the show:

“Secret Millionaire reflects perfectly the Good Sam philosophy of giving back where it’s needed,” said Lemonis of his life-changing experience on the show. “Good Sam was founded back in 1966, loosely based on the story of the Good Samaritan who went out of his way to help a fellow traveler,” he said. “This show provided me personally a great opportunity to help others in my hometown community.”

I really liked this episode because he chose some charities that work with children, a cause close to my heart. Although I wasn’t adopted like he was, I have come to know many impoverished children who are in desperate need. I was so thrilled to see how his donations will help the greater Miami area. My Dish coworker comes over with his family once a week, and this is one of the inspiring shows we watch together. Now that I have PrimeTime Anytime Recordings with Auto Hop, I select the automatic commercial skipping feature all the time. We are able to watch more shows in the same evening, and that makes for a more fun evening.
