Savannah Guthrie who was previously the Today Show third-hour co-anchor and the NBC News legal analyst. Prior to that, she was formerly a White House correspondent for the network and later a co-host of First Read on MSNBC alongside Chuck Todd. She replaces the former co-anchor Ann Curry in the aftermath of her controversial and involuntary departure from the show for a new role co-anchor at large and special correspondent at NBC News.

On her official first day as Matt Lauer’s co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie was welcomed by colleagues, news anchor Natalie Morales and weatherman Al Roker as seen in the replay video above which includes the profile and tribute video revealing her background as a law student and lawyer who made the transition to television journalism. You can see pictures as well as a summary and partial transcript of the discussion at Today.com

Later, in another segment at the end of the second hour of the program, Lauer, Morales and Roker again on the couch had a discussion of Guthrie’s interest in guitar — she said she had taught herself to play, and that singer-songwriter and guitarist Shawn Colvin was her idol and that meeting her was on her bucket list. In the midst of the discussion, Shawn Colvin walked on the set, surprising her and joining her in a duet of Bob Dylan’s ‘Lonesome.’
Colvin then performed All Fall Down, the title track of her new album; pictures of the surprise visit here.
