Tom Gabel of punk rock band Against Me! has comes out as a transgender woman, and will change her name to Laura Jane Grace. The punk rocker revealed the news in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone. Find out more details — and get the word on other trending stories — below after the jump.

The full interview will appear in the forthcoming issue of Rolling Stone which hits newsstands on Friday May 11 2012. Tom Gabel speaks candidly of the decision she has made to come forward publicly and how she intends to proceed personally and professionally.
Gabel, who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments.
Gabel will eventually take the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain married to her wife Heather. “For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news,” says Gabel. “But she’s been super-amazing and understanding.”
