John Mayer Shadow Days Video: Official Music Video Premiere

Here is the John Mayer Shadow Days video. The official music video had its premiere in support of the lead single of “Born and Raised” the 5th studio album from the multi-Grammy winning singer-songwriter and guitarist, due out on May 22, 2012, his first since 2009′s “Battle Studies.” Details and vid below.

Watch video above. The new video, the first glimpse of the themes, symbolism and overall sensibility of his latest work and, as always, is subject to a variety of interpretations. A couple of blogosphere reactions. From MTV News:

“Not much happens in the clip, but that’s kind of the idea. The story is nothing more than Mayer driving across America. But the sun-drenched message, perhaps, is that Mayer is looking to something simpler these days, given how his personal life has had some turmoil. For a man who has a reputation for breaking starlets’ hearts and has battled vocal-cord issues, Mayer seems to want to change his story and redirect the conversation back to his music.”

In the clip for “Shadow Days,” a moody track wherein Mayer croons about being a good man who lost his way, the recovering media provocateur skips across Arizona, Idaho and other frontier states. The postcard-pretty scenery, and Mayer’s shaggy, shoulder-length looks, have an Almost Famous quality, as if crafted by nostalgia enthusiast Cameron Crowe.

John Mayer had to cancel his tour due to granuloma, a throat condition but the “Born and Raised” album release proceeds as scheduled on May, 22, 2012 as noted.
