National Geographic Amish: Out Of Order

Here are National Geographic ‘Amish: Out of Order’ video and photos. The new program premieres its first episode, Amish 101, on Tues. April 17, 2012 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NatGeo Channel, chronicling the lives of those who have chosen to leave the Amish community. ‘Amish: Out of Order’ was produced by produced by Stick Figure Productions, producers of of a previous series, ‘Amish in the City and The Devil’s Playground.’ The new series reveals the difficulties and struggles of ex-Amish, who chose voluntarily to leave decision to leave the Amish life and community they grew up in. A variety of people are profiled, including the relatively well-known Mose Gingerich, the de facto mayor of the ex-Amish community in Columbia, Missouri, who has taken upon himself to mentor others who have left the Amish life which in its disavowal of the majority of modern conveniences and technological advancement is essentially the same as it was in the 18th century. Here’s the official synopsis of the premiere episode which, as noted will be broadcast on National Geographic channel on Tuesday, April 17, 2at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

In the series opener we’re introduced to the Columbia, Mo., ex-Amish community. Chris Y. and his older brother Reuben—both ex-Amish—go to pick up their Amish friend Michael, who wants to leave the sect too, but he’s a no-show. The brothers learn that for some, leaving the Amish isn’t as easy as it was for them. A number of other ex-Amish with hopes, dreams, passions and inclinations that weren’t satisfied within the confines of their Amish upbringing and culture are introduced—including Chris L., a roofer and cage fighter; and Mose Gingerich, the de facto mayor of the ex-Amish community who’s helped other ex-Amish adapt to the “real world” for more than nine years.
