Sen. Santorum had taken time off from the campaign trail during Easter weekend and the next day, Monday, due in part to the hospitalization of his three-year-old daughter, Bella who was born with chromosomal disorder Trisomy 18. He said in part, in the statement today: “Ladies and gentleman, we made the decision to get into this race at our kitchen table against all the odds. We made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race for us is over for me and we will suspend our campaign effective today. We are not done fighting.”
