Here is the Lady Gaga Ellen DeGeneres Show video from Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. Watch the full interview and performance of Marry the Night, which were in support of the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter’s album Born This Way.

During the interview, Lady Gaga discussed a wide range of topics, from her music career to her acting aspirations (“My dream would be to be in a Woody Allen movie.”). She also shared her feelings about paying taxes: “When I signed my tax returns this year I had to get completely wasted… they were just holding me up. I couldn’t even… it’s unbelievable” — and why she hasn’t bought a home — I’m a gypsy, you know. I can’t plan my life out like that so much. Then I think well, gosh what a waste of money to buy a place and I’m on the road”.

She also discussed at length the story behind the new song, Marry the Night, and the music video. She said it was her first time as director of photography on one of her videos. Previously she had worked with a co-director. The video is autobiographical, she said, and it depicts some of the obstacles she went through in her rise to “having a job now.” “It is a true life story from beginning to end,” she said, including the breakdown, which took place after she was dropped by her first record label. She said, “I had a breakdown and I had to decide if I had what it takes from a heart perspective to do it all over again.” She went on to say, “Marry the Night is about marrying the darkness, marrying what is difficult in your life.”
