Steven Slater JetBlue Flight Attendant

Steven Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who quit his job in a dramatic fashion, has become rapidly become somewhat of a folk hero. See a roundup of latest news, video, photos and updates on the unusual events which unfolded at New York City’s JFK airport on Mon. Aug. 9, 2010, are below after the jump.

As is becoming well known, according to media reports, on the plane which had just arrived from Pittsburgh, Slater was involved in a confrontation with a passenger who swore at him, refused to apologize for bumping his head with luggage. He cursed the passenger over the plane’s public-address system and proceeded to take some beer from the galley and exit the plane via the emergency chute. A short time later, he was arrested at his home in Belle Harbor, Queens, a few miles from JFK airport.

He was arraigned in court in Queens, New York, and pleaded not-guilty to felony charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and criminal trespass. He has a Facebook page which has amassed tens of thousands of fans. A legal defense fund has also been set up via Facebook.
