Here is the Obama interview with Chuck Todd video and transcript from Thurs. July 15, 2010, broadcast on NBC Nightly News and the Today Show (on July 16). President Barack Obama discussed a range of topics with the NBC White House correspondent and political analyst during his trip to Holland, Michigan (picture above) for the groundbreaking of a new battery power plant, Compact Power, Inc., subsidiary of Korean firm LG Chem Ltd.

The exclusive interview was conducted at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, MI, prior to the President’s return to Washington, DC. He addressed a range of topics including the economic recovery, the financial reform legislation (which passed the Senate that same day), health care reform as well as the electric battery industry being funded by federal stimulus funds, such as the new plant in Holland, MI.

He said of the latter: “The first thing to know is specifically what’s happening here in Holland, Michigan, but also all across the country. You know, when we came into office, America counted for about two percent of the advanced battery markets for electric and hybrid cars. And what we did was we said, look, let’s put up $2.4 billion that has to be matched by private dollars. And now you’ve got nine advanced battery manufacturing facilities already up on line. Ult– ultimately there are gonna be 21. And we expect that by 2015 we are going to have about 40 percent of the market in advanced battery technology.”

He said of the the economy and the financial reform: “That’s my job as to take responsibility for moving us in the right direction. But what I’m absolutely convinced of is that we’re gonna have a choice not just in November but for years to come. We can go back to all the same policies that got us into this mess where we basically provide– special interest loopholes. We don’t regulate Wall Street.”
