President Obama’s trip to western Michigan is part of the Recovery Summer Campaign. According to the Grand Rapids Press, Compact Power, Inc. is a subsidiary of LG Chem Ltd., which is a battery plant in Holland. The groundbreaking ceremony is to be held in a tent near 146th Avenue and Waverly Road. Upon construction, the new manufacturing plant will result in approximately 400 new jobs. The company received $151 million in federal stimulus funding to build the new as part of the $2.4 billion from in the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 which was awarded for advanced battery and electric vehicle manufacturers.
