The speech today follows President Obama’s tour of Celgard, LLC, a subsidiary of the Charlotte-based Polypore Company, which is involved with production of lithium-ion batteries (see preview video below). The company was singled out as it has received $49 million in stimulus funds under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009. According to the Charlotte Observer, the company has announced plans to invest $91 million for the expansion of its plant in Charlotte which will create 80 Jobs. Additionally, the company will build another plant in Concord, and create an additional 209 jobs by the end of 2014. The average wages for these jobs will be $56,960, plus benefits.
