Dr. Conrad Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson; arraignment took place Mon. Feb. 8, 2010 at the Los Angeles International Airport Courthouse. The L.A. District Attorney’s office announced the charge against the Houston cardiologist and MJ’s personal physician who, if convicted, would face a prison sentence of up to four years.

UPDATE: Dr. Murray pleaded not guilty at the arraignment and posted $75,000 bail. His medical license was not revoked under the condition that he not use anesthesia on patients. Judge Keith L. Schwartz told him: “I don’t want you sedating people.” [Source: CNN]

Michael Jackson’s parents, brother Jermaine Jackson, sister La Toya Jackson and several other family members were at the courtroom. Media had a large presence with satellite trucks, photographer and photographers outside the courtroom, along with numerous fans.
Michael Jackson’s death was ruled homicide by the L.A. County coroner ; resultant of lorazepam and anaesthetic Propofol which Dr. Murray had administered the morning of his death on June 25, 2009. Other drugs including midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine were found present in the body. More on the autopsy report at TMZ.
According to the criminal complaint, Dr. Murray is charged with acting “unlawfully and without malice.” He is further charged with administering the Propofol, which is a powerful anesthesia intended for hospital and clinical settings where a patient’s vital signs can be monitored, “without the caution and circumspection required.”
