Sex and the Political Wife.” She discussed her new book, “Staying True,” a memoir chronicling her marriage to husband, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford whose affair with his Argentine mistress Maria Belen Shapur became publicly known when he disappeared for four days in June 2009, initially claiming to be on the Appalachian trail. Jenny Sanford, a graduate of Georgetown University and formerly an investment banker at Lazard Freres, was married to Sanford for 20 years; she filed for divorce in December 2009, having moved out of the governor’s mansion with their four sons in August.

During the interview with Barbara Walters she discussed the memoir, “Staying True,” (published Feb. 5, 2010 by Ballantine Books) she has written of her marriage, her discovery of her husband’s affair, which was months before the public revelation through his disappearance and the subsequent press conference in June 2009. She revealed that the infamous Mark Sanford emails published by The State newspaper in South Carolina, revealing an intimate correspondence with his mistress, were instrumental in her decision to divorce.
