American Idol Pants on the Ground Video, Lyrics, Remix: General Larry Platt

Grammy Awards 2010 - RED CARPET

Here are the American Idol Pants on the Ground video, lyrics, and remix. General Larry Platt made a memorable appearance on the season 9 Atlanta auditions broadcast Jan. 13, 2010, becoming a YouTube viral video sensation.

The Civil Rights era veteran at age 62 does not meet the age requirements, which have a cut-off of 28, but he has nonetheless become quite well known in a matter of hours after his audition before judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardo and guest judge, Mary J. Blige.

USA Today reports on his background as a teenager in Civil Rights marches and struggles noting that he was a member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Georgia, organizing sit-ins in the South. He was beaten as he took part in the 1965 in the Bloody Sunday march from Selma, Ala., to Montgomery. Rev. Hosea Williams gave him the nickname “General” for his heroic efforts in the struggle. Additionally, PopEater has compiled several of the Pants on the Ground remix videos.

The original video of his audition and the lyrics are below.

Here are the Pants on the Ground lyrics:

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground.
Lookin’ like a fool with ya pants on the ground.
With da gold in ya mouth, hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground, ya call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool, walking downtown
With ya pants on the ground
Git it up
Hey!
