President Obama Speaks On The Catastrophic Earthquake In Haiti

Here are the Obama Haiti earthquake speech video and transcript from Jan. 13, 2010. President Barack Obama discussed the humanitarian efforts the U.S. will take in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake which took place in Haiti on Jan. 12. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake near Port-au-Prince, the capital, was the worst on the island in more than 200 years.

In a brief address, with Vice President Joe Biden at his side, the President called for a coordinated effort to get relief to the island nation. He said: “This morning I want to extend to the people of Haiti the deep condolences and unwavering support of the American people following yesterday’s terrible earthquake. We are just now beginning to learn the extent of the devastation, but the reports and images that we’ve seen … are truly heart-wrenching.”

“I have directed my administration to respond with a swift, coordinated and aggressive effort to save lives. The people of Haiti will have the full support of the United States in an urgent effort to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.”
