Susan Boyle is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the 5th consecutive week with sales of 510,000 of her debut album I Dreamed a Dream according to Nielson SoundScan. Multi-Grammy winning singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige is No. 2 with sales of 417,000 of her 9th studio album Stronger with Each Tear.

To date, 2,982,000 copies of I Dreamed a Dream have been sold in the U.S. With one additional sales week in 2009 (ending on Jan. 3, 2010), the album has the potential to become the best selling album of 2009. Thus far it has sold only 175,000 fewer copies than Taylor Swift’s Fearless, which has sold 3,157,000 and is presently year’s best selling album.

Additionally, Susan Boyle’s album is the first debut album to spend the first five weeks at No. 1 in the 53 year history of the Billboard 200. Previously, Lauren Hill’s debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and Ashanti’s self-titled debut albums were at No. 1 for three weeks each.
