Here are Kennedy Center Honors 2009 video and photos. The 32nd annual ceremony took place on Dec. 6 and was broadcast on CBS on Dec. 29, 2009. Honorees were Bruce Springsteen, Mel Brooks, Dave Brubeck, Grace Bumbry and Robert DeNiro, picture above, and below with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The full video can be seen below.
Offering tributes for Robert DeNiro were Meryl Streep, Martin Scorcese, Edward Norton, Sharon Stone and Ben Stiller. Aretha Franklin and Simon Estes paid tribute to trailblazing opera singer Grace Bumbry. Jazz composer Dave Brubeck, whose 89th birthday was coincidentally on the night of the ceremony, was honored in a presentation by Herbie Hancock followed by a performance of some of his legendary hits, including “Take Five” and “Blue Rondo a la Turk” featuring four of his sons.
Producer Mel Brooks was honored by Frank Langella, Jack Black, Harry Connick and others with medley of some of the songs from his movies and Broadway musicals. The evening concluded with a tribute to Bruce Springsteen, by Jon Stewart and Ron Kovic, (Vietnam veteran and author of “Born on the Fourth of July”) and a musical tribute which included such iconic hits as Born In the U.S.A. and The Rising, performed by Eddie Vedder, John Mellencamp, Melissa Etheridge and Sting.

I missed this fabulous Kennedy Center Honors last night, and I am so grateful to find it on YouTube. I was weeping the whole time. The briliance of these artists, the tribute to JFK, Caroline’s gracious presence and at 85 years myself, I am so thankful to be alive to receive all of this!
