According to White House Secretary Robert Gibbs, the President outlines his decision to send upwards of 40,000 additional troops to the region, including some 30,000 U.S. troops. He will additionally seek troops from NATO allies to enable the war strategy in Afghanistan. The speech is intended to explain the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan in a conflict which began in 2001 during the Bush administration. As reported by CNN, according to Gibbs has stated that Obama is presently reviewing this decision with world leaders who include British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
