Here is the official Toby Keith Cryin’ For Me (Wayman’s Song) video and lyrics from his 13th studio album American Ride. The song is a tribute to Wayman Tisdale, the late NBA star and jazz musician with whom the country music superstar had frequently collaborated.
Tisdale died at age 44 in May 2009 after a two-year battle with cancer. The music video features footage of Tisdale and had its world premiere on Nov. 2 on CMT.com. As Tulsa World reported Toby Keith had written the song but declined to perform it at the funeral, telling the newspaper, “I wrote a song for him, but there’s no way I could possibly get through it here today” and performing instead Willie Nelson’s Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground. Toby,
I have always been such a huge fan of yours – but this song really sends me to a higher place with you.
Thank you for showing what a deep friendship means, and what a wonderful person he was – to you – and to others.
Thank you for all of your songs – and for your ability to express what others feel and can not.
