Here is the Journey on Oprah video from Oct. 5, 2009. The legendary rock band and its new lead singer Arnel Pineda from The Philippines were profiled, revealing the remarkable story of how he was discovered via a YouTube video. It was the culmination of the band’s long search for a new frontman after the departure of Steve Perry.
The band, which dates back to 1973, is long known for signature hits such as Don’t Stop Believing, Faithfully and Separate Ways and has estimated worldwide sales of 80 million records. Their thirteenth album, Revelation, is their first with Arnel Pineda.
The Oprah Winfrey show revealed a video profile of the new frontman and his upbringing in poverty in the Philippines and unswerving determination to survive; he endured homelessness, during which he survived by what he could earn as a musical performer. It was his performance of one of Journey’s hits, Faithfully, with a cover band at Manila’s Hard Rock Cafe that was uploaded to YouTube and led to Journey band members’ discovery of him.
In addition to performances on the program, Oprah interviewed all of the band members in the studio. The band’s present line-up with Pineda as frontman is: Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Deen Castronovo.

“It’s a tenor voice, with soul and emotion.”
He went on to describe his YouTube discovery of Pineda:
I stumbled upon Arnel like in the eleventh hour when I was ready to give up,” Neal says. “And I went, ‘Wow.’”
Additionally, the article notes that Steve Perry sent a statement to the show’s producers wishing the band well.

I’m really very proud of both Arnel and the other members of Journey! I saw them at the Amway Arena in Orlando was “blown away” with all of the energy the group gave us there! Great things really do happen to the lives of people that “don’t stop believing!” Thank you Arnel and the other great members of Journey, we still have alot of faith in your continued success!
