The latest album from country music star Patty Loveless, Mountain Soul II (track-list below) has just been released on Sept. 29. See a video of her performance of Diamond in My Crown from the new album, and fiind out more about the follow-up album to the 2001 collection from the Grammy Award winner, which features bluegrass, traditional songs from the Appalachian Mountains and classic country songs along with some songs re-recorded from previous albums.
The new album countains a range of acoustic music, and is not strictly bluegrass as was the first album; with selections including Busted by Harlan Howard (which serves as the album’s led single) and Emmylou Harris’ “Diamond in My Crown. Patty Loveless discussed the album at length in an interview with The 9513. The majority of the album was recorded live and features guest appearances from Vince Gill and the McCourys among others. She talked about how this recordings came about, noting that she has often jammed with these artists as well as performed on stage with them.
In 2003, Del McCoury was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and they called upon me to be a part of the induction and we did “Working on a Building” together so it was appropriate for him to come into the studio and join me on this song. It was just natural. He also sings on “Busted,” and to me he’s the perfect character for the song because he can present it and it’s believable.
As far as Vince Gill and Rebecca Lynn Howard even, we’ve all been singing together on stage and it [feels] like we’ve been singing together all our lives. The whole feel of this record is like me inviting a bunch of folks to my house to jam and we all just love to perform and sing and play with each other.
