Here is the Mariah Carey on The View video of her appearance on Oct. 2, 2009. The music superstar was interviewed by the co-hosts and additionally performed I Want to Know What Love is, lead single of her newly released 12th studio album, ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.’

During the wide-ranging interview, Mariah Carey responded to a discussion that the ABC talk show co-hosts Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sherri Shepherd had during the Hot Topics segment of the program, in which they talked about season 6 finalist American Idol Chris Sligh’s advice to aspiring artists in general and the season 8 finalists in particular [See: American Idol Chris Sligh Advises Season 8 Idols].

The multi-Grammy Award winner reflected upon her own rise to phenomenal success in the music world noting that she began writing songs at age 13 and had taken the ‘old school’ approach, noting that her mother helped instill self-confidence by telling her to think of “when” she would make it, not “if.” She noted that in contrast, American Idol “cuts out some of the steps” for aspiring music artists, yet they may not have the skills to survive in the business.

Regarding her marriage to Nick Cannon, (after displaying her dazzling multi-caret diamond engagement ring ‘it’s a few carets, she said) she recollected their secret wedding in the Bahamas, noting that the few people accompanying them were told they were going to shoot a music video. “He’s a really fun guy,” she said, “I like that in a person.” She revealed they nicknamed each other Mr. C and Mrs. C.

Additionally, she performed her cover of Foreigners’ 1980s smash hit “I Want to Know What Love Is,” the lead single of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.
