It is the lead single of her forthcoming sophomore studio album Echo which will be released on November 16, 2009 on Syco Records (Nov. 17 in the U.S). The single will have its official premiere on September 6 on BBC “The Radio 1 Chart Show”.

The ballad was co-written Leona Lewis, Evan Bogartby and OneRepublic frontman and producer Ryan Teddar, who also produced the track. The latter is hitmaker responsible for the international hit single Bleeding Love which produced and co-wrote with Jesse McCartney for her Grammy nominated multi-platinum selling debut album Spirit.

Noting the Leona Lewis Happy lyrics are anything but happy with such lines as — “I can’t stand by your side / And watch this life pass me by / I don’t care about all the pain in front of me / I just want to be happy” — The Daily Mail quotes the singer as saying of the new song:

‘The vocal was totally spontaneous. I sang it as soon as we finished writing. Sometimes it’s better not to over-think things.’

Regarding the forthcoming album, Echo, AceShowBiz.com quotes the X Factor winner turned international pop star’s assessment:

“I titled my album ‘ECHO’, since an echo describes a big, organic sound. I’m in the midst of the recording process, working with incredible songwriters and producers, and my music has really evolved. It’s so exciting to create something new.”
