The band appeared on Late Show with David Letterman on September 1, 2009, performing Good Morning Captain from their newly released eighth album, Before the Frost…Until the Freeze. The Black Crowes is comprised of frontmen and brothers Chris Robinson and Rich Robinson and Steve Gorman, Adam MacDougall, Sven Pipien, and Luther Dickinson. The band which fuses elements of blues and rock has been in existence nearly 20 years, since their 1990 “Shake Your Money Maker.

The new album Before the Frost…Until the Freeze was produced by The Black Crowes’ long-time producer Paul Stacey and recorded at The Barn, Levon Helm’s famed studio in Woodstock, NY before a live audience during late five sessions in February 2009. In a recent interview, the band’s drummer Steve Gorman discussed the dual album/free album giveaway.
“This is a good double album. Let’s not ask people right now, in 2009, to pay double.” It’s not that they won’t, It’s just rude to ask – it’s not appropriate on any level.
Next year is 20 years (since the band’s debut), what are we going to do to acknowledge 20 years? We have to do some cool thing for the fans. If 20 years later, someone is still going to buy our CDs, the least we can do is say, “Here’s another one on the house.”
