Here is the official Friendly Fires Kiss of Life video, lyrics in support of the lead single from the British pop band’s re-release of their self-titled debut album, which was nominated for a 2009 Mercury Prize. The single and the re-released album will both be released on August 3, 2009; Friendly Fires album track-listing below.
The music video directed by Chris Cottam premiered on Channel 4 on July, 23 2009 and was shot on location in Ibiza, Spain. The Friendly Fires lyrics, (written by the band) and the music reveal African-Brazilian influences and the use of samba drums.
The band is comprised of Ed Macfarlane, Jack Savidge and Edd Gibson who have been playing together as a band since they were 14 years old in St. Albans, England. They were profiled in a recent article in the Guardian which reveals their musical influences as underground dance music from around the world in general and in particular UK garage and German minimal techno, the groups Liquid Liquid, Ricardo Villalobos and Teddy Riley.
“I refer to us as a pop band because “indie” has this association with bands like Oasis or the Enemy, having a bowl haircut and talking about music for ‘real’ people,” says Ed.
“We don’t feel like all our videos have to be us rocking out in a warehouse,” adds Jack, drily.
