Here is the Brendan Benson Letterman video. The singer-songwriter guitarist of The Raconteurs performed A Whole Lot Better on Late Show with David Letterman on August 21, 2009 in support of his fourth solo studio album, My Old, Familiar Friend.
The new album was released on August 18, 2009, with A Whole Lot Better as the lead single. It is his first solo album since forming The Raconteurs with Jack White, frontman of The White Stripes. His three prior solo albums are One Mississippi, Lopalco, and The Alternative to Love.
Since being a part of The Raconteurs, which won a Grammy Award for their 2008 album, Consolers of the Lonely, the singer-songwriter from Michigan who now resides in Nashville, noted in a recent interview with the Tennessean it has boosted his stature in the music scene as he releases the new solo album My Old, Familiar Friend.
“It was weird,” he says. “On one hand, I thought, ‘This is a great opportunity.’ I could gain a larger audience in my solo stuff sheerly by standing next to Jack. On the other hand, that same thing, I thought, could be detrimental. I didn’t want to gain this larger audience, but then have them think that I was this guy that played for Jack. I get that sometimes. People say, ‘You played for Jack, didn’t you?’ I’m like, ‘Well, actually, no. I play with Jack. I’m Brendan, by the way, and yeah, I wrote and sang half the songs.’ ”
