The new season National Geographic: Locked Up Abroad Iraq follows the experience of journalists Scott Taylor and Zeynep Tugrul who get kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq in 2004.
Iraq in recent years is a never-ending timely subject of concern, and the plight of the journalists is of particular interest as it sheds light on what has gone on in the country during the war years.

It was on September 7, 2004 as US forces were about to attack Tall ‘Afar in northwest Iraq. The two journalists Scott Taylor and Zeynep Tugrul rushed to the remote city with the intention of reporting from the front line. But along the way, they were kidnapped by insurgents convinced that they were U.S. spies, not journalists. They live to witness and survive execution and torture rarely seen by Westerners who live to tell the tale.
As with all of the series episodes, National Geographic: Locked Up Abroad Iraq intersperses reenactment with interviews with the subjects.
