Here is the Maxwell ‘CBS Early Show Video and photos from July 8, 2009. The Grammy-nominated R&B neo-soul singer performed Pretty Wings and signature hits in support of his newly released fourth studio album, Black Summer’s Night also known as BlackSummer’sNight, the first of a trilogy of album.

The Maxwell CBS Early Show Video reveals a spirited performance in New York City before a live audience of Pretty Wings, which is the lead single from the new album, his first since 2001. BLACKsummer’snight.

Maxwell has been pioneer in the genre of neo-soul in the 1990s, with his previous album, Now (2001) becoming his third to reach No. 1 both on the Billboard 200 and the Billboard R&B album chart. His new album is on track to top the Billboard 200 next week with sales estimated at 275,000 at midweek.

In the brief interview, he paid tribute to Michael Jackson, saying, “”He’s the inspiration for all musicians. I think on every level he touched all musicians from rock musicians to country to soul to R&B,” and we went on to express condolences to the family.

Regarding his own return to the music scene after his eight-year hiatus, he said, “I thought only one person would be standing in the audience.”

The second and third albums in the triology, followed by Summer’s in 2010, and Night in 2011. The three albums are also known as BLACKsummer’snight, blackSUMMERS’night and blacksummers’NIGHT.
