The remarkable video was by the same inmates who are globally known for their 2007 Thriller viral video, (featuring 1,500 inmates performing the famous dance routine) completed the new Filipino MJ tribute video in just ten hours after receiving word of the untimely death of The King of Pop, who died at age 50 on June 25, 2009. The Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) prison is located in Cebu, south of Manila, Philippines.

This time, the inmates dance to a medley of Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 signature hits including “I’ll Be There,” “Ben,” as well as the charity hit “We Are The World.” According to the Daily News, 700 spectators witnessed the performance and filming of the Filipino Prison Michael Jackson Tribute video.

“The inmates are still in grief after learning that their idol is already dead,” said prison security consultant Byron Garcia, who uploaded the original video, according to reports.

Before it was the Filipino prison Thriller video with more than 24 million views on YouTube, it was an exercise routine for the inmates created by choreographer Vince Rosales. In the aftermath of worldwide acclaim and recognition, the prisoners had been performing the routine for the public on the last Saturday of every month, and the untimely death of Michael Jackson occurred a day ahead of the scheduled performance. The Filipino Prison Michael Jackson Tribute honors the legacy of the King of Pop. The 1982 Thriller album won eight Grammy Awards and is the best selling album in music history certified 28 times platinum by the RIAA. The music legend was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a solo artist and as a member of the Jackson 5. He had, throughout his career album and single sales exceeding 750 million.
