President Obama signs the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act in Washington

Here is the Barack Obama Nancy Reagan video. President Barack Obama signed into law the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act on June 2, 2009 with former First Lady Nancy Reagan at his side during a signing ceremony at the White House. See the video, transcript and photos here.

The Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act is designed to create a commission to plan the celebration of what would have been former President Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday in the year 2011.

In his remarks, President Obama paid tribute to President Ronald Reagan, saying, “‘[He] understood that while there are often strong disagreements between parties and political adversaries — disagreements that can be a source of conflict and bitterness — it is important to keep in mind all that we share.

For all of the deepest of divides that exist in America, the bonds that bring us together are that much stronger. And we may see the world differently, but we must never stop seeing one another as fellow Americans — and as patriots — who want what is best for the country we love.”

President Obama signs the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act in Washington

There was a moment of levity as the President began to sign the legislation into law.

Mrs. Reagan said to him: “Oh, You’re a lefty.” To which the President replied: “I am a lefty.”

Referring to his left-handedness, not his politics.
