The Scottish singer now known throughout the world from her memorable Britain’s Got Talent ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ audition performed in the semi-final where here performance of Memory from the musical Cats earned her a place in the Britain’s Got Talent 2009 final.

Susan Boyle did not win Britain’s Got Talent; she was the second place finalist, with dance troupe Diversity winner, and third place, saxophonist, Julian Smith. The world knows the name and life story of the 47-year-old singer from Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland. Her original performance has been viewed by tens of millions on YouTube, and is widely considered to be one of the most viewed viral video hits of all time. The singer had a turbulent week which brought tabloid headlines speaking of a Susan Boyle meltdown but she persevered and issued a statement of her resolve to perform in the Britain’s Got Talent final. (See: Susan Boyle moved to ‘safe house‘ )

In a recent interview, the singer credits her mother for her inspiration and perseverance.

“I believe in heaven and that my mother is watching…My mother used to sing around the house a lot, especially when she was working. So it’s a habit I sort of picked up from her,” she said.

“I was a kind of slow learner, so singing was a good way of hiding behind that, and boosting my confidence.”
