Here is the Common Tavis Smiley interview video. The Grammy Award winning rapper and actor Common appeared on The Tavis Smiley Show on May 20, 2009 and discussed his role in the highly anticipated forthcoming movie Terminator Salvation directed by McG and starring Christian Bale as John Connor which will be released in theaters May 22, 2009. In the movie, Common portrays Barnes, who works alongside protagonist Connor to save humankind.

The Chicago born rapper Common also discussed his eighth studio album, Universal Mind Control, and the directions his music is taking. In addition to the acclaim the Grammy Award winner has received as a rapper, beginning with his first major label album, Like Water for Chocolate, he has also won acclaim as an actor. He has appeared in Smokin’ Aces, Street Kings, American Gangster, and Wanted.

In a recent interview, Common discussed his role in the highly anticipated Terminator Salvation.

“My character, Barnes, is part of the resistance. He’s like a spiritual revolutionary soldier. When you think of Malcolm X or when you think of Martin Luther King, they fought in certain ways. Malcolm X definitely had the warrior in him. He was down for the spiritual fight, too. I look at my character as someone who’s down for the spiritual fight and is a warrior.”
