Here is the official Ruben Studdard Together video and lyrics and promo photos. It is the lead single from the Grammy nominated season 2 American Idol winner’s fourth studio album, Love IS, set for release May 19, 2009.

The video is in support of the single which was written and produced by Stargate. In an interview, the R&B/gospel singer-songwriter discussed the single, Together, the video and the album in general which was produced with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Studdard says that he wrote songs together with them and also went to Nashville and wrote songs with with Tom Shapiro, Bob DiPiero, Bill Luther, Barry Dean and Marcus Hummon.

Regarding ‘Together,’ he says:

“It’s a song that talk about how nothing is better than sticking into a relationship and nothing matters other than the person that you’re with, and everything will work out if you just stay together,” Ruben says. “That’s a really good message for a song.”

The video was directed by Roman White and shot on location in Nashville at the new nightclub Fuse.

“I do a performance in the club, and you’ll see these two workers here that have a relationship…It goes through the complexities of what’s going on with them.”

Noting that during American Idol 60 million people voted for him, enabling his narrow win against runner up Clay Aiken, he said he hoped to reach that audience again with the new album. Sales of his second and third albums, ‘I Need an Angel’ and ‘Return’ did not equal the success of the debut album.

“This album really gave me the opportunity to do songs that I think will really capture the whole American Idol audience. I had 60 million people vote for me, and I’m almost certain that all those people don’t listen to Urban AC radio.”

Like fellow American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard is from Birmingham, Alabama. He released a debut album, Soulful, in 2003 which went platinum and of its singles, “Superstar” and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
