Here is the Lil Wayne The View Video. The Grammy Award winning rapper was interviewed
and performed live on ABC The View on April 24, 2009. He performed Prom Queen, lead single from his forthcoming rock album, Rebirth. The celebrated rapper was nominated for eight 2009 Grammy Awards (more than any artist this year) and also had the No. 1 best selling album of 2008, The Carter III.

Preceding the performance, he sat down for a memorable interview with The View cohosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselback, and Sherri Sheppard.

Lil Wayne on The View talked about his early start in music; started writing at eight, signed record deal at 12 and first hit at 15 and became solo artist at age 17, making him, essentially a veteran in the music industry at age 26.

He also talked about the forthcoming album, The Rebirth, set for release on June 16, 2009. He says he is characterizing it as a rock album, but went on to elaborate that it is “Lil Wayne maturing.” (The album was also the focus of a Rolling Stone feature story, an excerpt of which can be seen here: Lil Wayne: The Story Behind the Story)

He also talked about his reentry into education. That initially his mother allowed him to leave school to pursue his music career, and when he returned he was a straight-A student. He said that had been taking classes at the University of Houston campus and now is pursuing his education online with the University of Phoenix.

Lil Wayne on the View also joked about his tattoos, saying he had room for two more tattoos and told cohost Sherri Sheppard that his signature diamond grill was an orthodontic brace.

When asked about his fondness for cough syrup and marijuana, which he has frequently rapped about, he said that it is not his key to success, and that he depends on God and motivation but conceded, “I love to smoke.”

In related news, Lil Wayne lost his court battle to stop the release of “Tha Carter,” a documentary which premiered at The Sundance Film Festival which has footage of him drinking the syrup. A California Superior Court judge rejected his request for a preliminary injunction, thus allowing the production company QD3 Entertainment to seek distribution of the film.
