This is their second performance this week on national U.S. television, following upon their popular appearance on April 11, 2009 on Saturday Night Live.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is comprised of lead singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase, and guitarist Nick Zinner. Karen O and Chase met while still students in the late 1990s at Oberlin College in Ohio and Karen O met Zinner in New York City when she transferred to New York University. Eventually they formed a punk band similar to the art student groups Karen O had been a part of while in Ohio. Their debut album, Fever to Tell, was Grammy nominated.

The latest album was produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, PiL), and Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio. The new album is notable for its more pronounced electronic sound in contrast to the band’s punk rock, art punk, indie rock style. In an interview, Karen O discussed the guest appearance of TV on the Radio on the album.

“We were looking to do a track which, personally, I felt would be on a more sexy side,” the singer explained. “David Sitek roped Tunde Adibimpe in from TV On The Radio to sing with us, and I think we must have done 200 versions of it, but in the end I think it has a little bit of a swagger, and a little bit of an intimacy that other tracks don’t necessarily have.”

Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be performing on the third day of the Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival.
