***UPDATE – Susan Boyle advanced to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent and performed on May 24, 2009 and performed in the BGT Final on May 30, 2009. Both videos have been added below.
At Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle revealed her professional aspirations — to become a success like West End star Elaine Paige — to dismissive Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan and audience.
As soon as she sang I Dreamed a Dream from the musical Les Miserables, there was derision no more. Her amazingly beautiful voice and stunning rendition of the song, prompted spontaneous cheering from the audience and a rousing standing ovation after her performance.
Piers Morgan fessed up to the initial disbelief and dismissiveness of her, which was entirely based on her modest middle aged appearance.
Noting that the audience had laughed at her before she began to sing, he said, ‘Well, no one is laughing now. That was stunning,’
For her part, Amanda Holden echoed the sentiment saying they had all been cynical and this was the ‘biggest wake-up call ever.’
Simon Cowell whose visual reaction of complete amazement to the singer was almost as amazing as the performance, gave a joking assessment, ‘I knew the minute you walked out that we were going to hear something extraordinary, and I was right.’

Susan Boyle has already drawn comparisons to Paul Potts, the mobile phone salesman and 2007 Britain’s Got Talent contestant who likewise became a sensation with his amazing operatic voice which has catapulted him to international success and a debut album that has topped the charts in 13 countries. Susan Boyle Interview video from West Lothian Courier
Susan Boyle is a church worker from Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland who lives alone with her cat in the house she grew up in. She has said in interviews that she has never been kissed and never had a boyfriend. However, she has had a lifelong singing aspiration which began when she was 5 years old; it was a way to escape from the teasing she endured as a child, due to her learning disability.
Except for a brief tenure at Edinburgh, Boyle did not have the opportunity to pursue her professional career as a singer, other than appearing in local talent contests. In an interview, she talked about the impetus for entering Britain’s Got Talent; the 2007 death of her mother who had always encouraged her singing in general and encouraged her to enter the talent competition.
“Mum loved the show and used to tell me I should put my name down and that I’d win it if I did.
“But I never thought I was good enough. It was only after she died that I plucked up the courage to enter.
“It was a very dark time and I suffered depression and anxiety. But out of the darkness came light. I realised I wanted to make her proud of me and the only way to do that was to take the risk and enter the show.”

Regardless of whether she wins the competition, she appears to have a bright and successful future ahead of her. She says.
“I’ve been for a meeting with Sony BMG but I can’t say much about it. It’s early days and I’m taking baby steps. Simon [Cowell is] a good man. I trust him and I’d be happy to work for him.”

It’s a triumphant story reminding us once again, never to judge based on appearance as Susan Boyle herself points out in an interview.
“Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances,” she said.
“There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example.”

From the bottom of my heart, I am so happy for someone like Susan Boyle to come forward and bring forth this extraordinary voice. She is a great example that One Should Never, Never judge an individual based on how one looks. we put too much emphasis on youth and looks. People with good looks tend to be mostly airheads, untelligent and lack education. Her extraordinary voice is classic and it is great that Susan Boyle can bring this method of singing back rather than the ugly Rap Music, R & B and hip hop way of singing. GO SUSAN, WE ARE WITH YOU.
YES Susan you rocked the house! beautiful! what more can I say!
I’ve watched her full 7:30 BGT segment scores of times, and I still can’t view it with dry eyes. I wish we could receive BGT in the US. Perhaps when the season’s over they’ll compile a DVD of Susan’s saga? Save me a copy.
Susan Boyle’s voice is simply incredible.
I do hope the fame doesn’t go to her head; there are rumors she is considering plastic surgery! Part of her charm is her natural beauty. . .
Wow!! It’s a story like this that makes me realize that Web 2.0 is totally different and more democratic than anything human-kind has ever seen before. At the same time, I’m having a hard time believe that this story is real. Susan has such a wonderful voice. But, then again, Web 2.0 has enabled this to become real.

She has an amazing future ahead of her,and I can not wait until she brings out her cd.I will be buying it for sure.
She is brilliant.
Its been months now since the first time I saw Ms.Susan Boyle in YouTube singing that heart warming song from Les Miserables. Every now and then, if I needed a 10-minute break from my work surfing the net, I would always go back to Ms. Boyle’s youtube. Her voice warms my heart, the reaction of the people and the judges still amuses me, never fails to give me a smile. But most of all, it always gives me a hope that someday my dream will come true just like hers. No matter what other people say, I forever thank Susan Boyle for giving me that inspiration to never stop dreaming.
She has really been blessed with a voice of an angel. It`s so refreshing to see some real talent, and enjoy the her beautiful voice. Need more like her and less like some of the noise makers that are out there now.
