National Geographic returns with its groundbreaking series Locked Up Abroad, Season 3 premiere on April 1, 2009. See photos and video here. Only coincidentally on April Fool’s Day, as the ensnarement of the real-life characters is, tragically, anything but a prank. We know vaguely that being ‘locked up abroad’ is not a good idea.
The season premiere is Locked Up Abroad Cuzco, set in Peru.
Witnessing two people in desperate circumstances take desperate measures just underscores it. Watch video preview below.
It started off with a familiar scenario, Sarah needed to pay off her debts. But her solution, to agree to smuggle drugs from Peru, with the help of an accomplice started the downward spiral.

Sarah and Simon are questioned by the police, as seen in this footage from the Peruvian government.
Simon thought it would be a ‘dream vacation’ with Sarah, and then the authorities discovered cocaine in their luggage.
