Britney Spears Circus Tour Video, Photos 3-3-09

The Circus Starring Britney Spears Tour kicked off with a concert in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 3, 2009. See photos and video here. The pop superstar’s highly anticipated opening night began with her singing the title track of her sixth studio album Circus, as she was lowered from a trapeze onto a spectacular three-ring stage set that evoked a circus with aerialists, acrobats, martial artists and magicians. The opening act, Pussycat Dolls and frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger had literally set the stage with their performance as they were accompanied by jugglers, gymnasts and unicyclists from the Big Apple Circus.

Britney Spears had made the official Circus Tour set list public in advance of the highly anticipated tour, her comeback tour and her first in five years. It features her hit singles and new tracks from Circus. She also sang ‘Radar’ along with Womanizer and some of as her classics, Boys, Me Against the Music, and Baby One More Time. The tour with its spectacular stage in the round was created by director Jamie King. The pop superstar wore costumed designed by Dsquared2, the Canadian designers and identical twins Dean Caten and Dan Caten.

Whenever Britney was on stage — she often ducked out to swap revealing costumes — she was in constant motion. She interacted with dancers and props in a seamlessly choreographed presentation that left little room for error. She consistently hit her marks; her only noticeable miscue was knocking off her fedora during “Get Naked.”

During “Piece of Me,” she cavorted within, atop and alongside a cage. For “Me Against the Music,” she sashayed in a sumptuous, Bollywood-style ensemble. Against the club pulse of “Get Naked,” she posed in an oversize picture frame as dancers ogled her — a play on the media’s Britney Spears obsession.

Her dancing was not as aerobic as in the past, but she held her own. In “Radar,” she fronted 11 dancers, perfectly in step. For “Do Something,” she wore a metallic gold swimsuit and wielded a spark-spewing angle grinder. In the final “Womanizer,” she donned the uniform of a sexy cop.
