Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto graces the cover of Vogue India March 2009 issue and featured in a photo shoot. See photos and video here of the gorgeous actress who was photographed by Regan Cameron in Louis Vuitton.
The movie won eight Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director and has made its stars (Dev Patel and the young child actors from the slums of Mumbai, India), its British director, Danny Boyle and famed Bollywood composer A.R. Rahman enormously popular worldwide. The Pussycat Dolls, for instance, have recorded a remixed version the Oscar winning song Jai Ho, produced by Polow Da Don.
The 24 year old Pinto made her film debut in Slumdog Millionaire. Previously she was a model, appearing in ads for products that include Wrigley’s Chewing Gum. In Slumdog Millionaire she plays the love interest of the main character who is an 18-year-old orphan who wins the jackpot on India’s version of the TV show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’
Woody Allen cast her in his upcoming movie shortly after the runaway success of Slumdog Millionaire at the Academy Awards. She will costar with Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins.
Despite being new to acting, she attributes her modeling career with helping her feel at ease in front of the camera, and for being a standout at the audition and being cast in the movie.
‘I always wanted to act in films, but in India it’s very difficult to become an actress if you haven’t got a godfather: someone with influence, always a man, in the industry to help get you into auditions.
‘But I didn’t need a godfather for Slumdog. I just went along, did the audition with Dev and then Danny picked me.
‘I have no idea whether acting is a future for me, but I would like to do more film work. The reaction to Slumdog has been beyond my wildest expectations.’
