Bruce Springsteen ‘The Wrestler’ Video, Photos

The Wrestler movie poster

Here is the official music video for Bruce Springsteen’s “The Wrestler,” the song for the Darren Aronofsky movie of the same title starring Mickey Rourke. See the video, lyrics and photos here.  The track is from Springsteen’s 16th album, Working on a Dream.

The music video intersperses footage from the movie with Springsteen performing the song at an empty wrestling ring.  Springsteen wrote the song after Mickey Rourke, his longtime friend, contacted him via letter in the latter part of 2008 and, not having seen the movie or the script, he wrote the song solely on the basis of the letter.

The poignant ballad won the 2009 Golden Globe for Best Original Song, yet was snubbed by the Oscars.

[T]he voting committee only went with three nominees in the category: a pair of Slumdog Millionaire tracks and Peter Gabriel’s “Down To Earth” from Wall-E. Gabriel says he won’t perform to protest the ceremony’s 65-second-per-song rule, and the show’s producers are so desperate for performers they’ve even offered M.I.A., who gave birth a week ago today, a bed from which to sing Slumdog’s “O Saya.”
