TV on the Radio

TV on the Radio performed live and were interviewed on The Colbert Report on February 9, 2009.  See video and photos here of their engaging appearance on the program; it’s their second major TV appearance in the last few days. The group was also on Saturday Night Live (See: TV on the Radio SNL Video 2-7-09.) The acclaimed alternative rock group, also known as TVotR, was first established in 2001. Their music transcends categorization as it embraces several genres including post-punk, funk, doo-wop, soul, shoegaze and electro.

The interview with Stephen Colbert was at once entertaining and informative, as Colbert let viewers know that the group’s recently released fourth studio album, Dear Science, was named Rolling Stone 2008 Album of the Year. Colbert engaged the group in a discussion of the meaning of the album’s intriguing title. He also could not resist touch Kyp Malone’s beard which he said felt “like a vacation in a faraway forest.” He also told the group to be prepared for the Colbert Bump which will signal the end of their credibility as an indie group, he said, as he recently gave Paul McCartney the Colbert Bump, and look what it did for his career! All kidding aside, the Colbert Bump is a documented rise in popularity.

The group performed their song “Dancing Choose” from their album Dear Science.

TV on the Radio will perform at Coachella 2009 and Bonnaroo 2009. The group is comprised of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals/loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops), Kyp Malone (vocals/guitars/loops) along with Jaleel Bunton (drums) and Gerard Smith (bass/keyboards). Their acclaimed album Dear Science features guest appearances from Antibalas and Celebration’s Katrina Ford.  Previous collaborators have included David Bowie who did backing vocals on Return from Cookie Mountain, the group’s third studio album.
